The 2014-2020 ROP was approved by the European Commission
The decision of the European Commission for adopting the 2014-2020 Regional Operational Program (ROP) was signed on Tuesday, June 23 of the current year, in Bruxelles, The event took place in the presence of Mrs. Corina Crețu, European Commissioner for regional policy and of Mrs. Sevil Shhaideh, Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration. The 2014-2020 ROP will continue funding investments in the period 2007-2013: social, health and educational infrastructure, SMEs, county roads and tourism, yet it will also fund new categories of projects as compared to the previous program: thermal rehabilitation of public buildings, cadaster works and technological transfer centers.
The European Commissioner for regional policy, Mrs. Corina Crețu stated: “Today we adopted one of the biggest investment programs of the European Union. This will bring concrete benefits for all the Romanian citizens. By supporting small enterprises, by promoting urban mobility, by improving regional connectivity and by ensuring better access to social services for all the citizens, especially for the poorest and most vulnerable ones, these investments will significantly improve the life of Romanians. Furthermore, the energy efficiency investments will reduce the value of the invoices of residential consumers and will protect the environment. I wish all the Romanians to take advantage of this program”.
The Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration, Sevil Shhaideh, added: “The 2014-2020 Regional Operational Program adopted today, is the program that has the highest contribution to the regional development of Romania. The program foresees financial allocations for all the 11 priority axes (plus axis 12 - Technical Assistance) by means of which in the next 7 years EUR 8.25 billion shall be invested, amount allocated to Romania for regional development. Out of the total budget, 6.7 billion represent the EU support by means of the European Regional Development Fund. We are practically marking the beginning of a new stage in the development of Romania.
The program foresees objectives, funding areas and a funding plan, which are the eligible beneficiaries for each axis, institutional mechanism, principle for prioritizing the investments and working instruments. The 2014-2020 ROP covers 9 out of the 11 thematic objectives of the European Union’s Cohesion Policy.
