13 October 2021 - G-RAIL Connecting Regions Workshop - European Week of Regions and Cities 2021


 

Bucharest-Ilfov Regional Development Agency (ADRBI) and Bucharest-Ilfov Intercommunity Development Association for Public Transport (TPBI), together with partners Algeciras City Hall, Bobadilla-Estación Local Government Entity and the Andalusian Regional Government of Spain, Pomorskie Region of Poland and the Region Hauts-de-France, organized on October 13, 2021, the online workshop G-RAIL Connecting Regions - code 13WS21559.

The event was interactive, with video presentations and interventions by representatives of the regions, focusing on the experience, needs and opportunities of each. The presentations covered the main features of the regional railways, cohesion, connections, the current state and the level of energy efficiency of the railway infrastructure. There was also talk of the vocational training and education system and how it addresses issues related to the European Green Agreement in its training on rail transport.

The Bucharest-Ilfov region is in the process of approaching the means of transport by rail to facilitate mobility and reduce pollution.

The event was registered and selected as a partnership workshop in the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities (#EURegionsWeek), the largest annual event dedicated to cohesion policy, being organized by the European Commission - DG Regio and the European Committee of the Regions. It has become a unique communication and networking platform, bringing together regions and cities across Europe, including politicians, administrators, civil servants, experts and academics. For the past 18 years, it has done much to promote policy learning and the exchange of best practices. This year took place between October 11-14, 2021 and included over 300 events.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 event was the first digitally organized edition, attracting over 10,000 online participants. Building on this success, the new advanced platform will provide an opportunity to debate in 2021, keeping communities connected, exchanging best practices and ideas between partners and participants on four topics: Cohesion, Green transition, Digital transition, Citizen involvement

Entitled "Together for Recovery", this year's program focuses on the capacity of the EU and national and regional governments to support European citizens and their local communities with practical measures and public policies aimed at future investments in a fairer, more equitable environment. greener and more digital for recovery. In this regard, the new cohesion policy and the new generation of EU programs for 2021-2027, as well as the EU's financial instruments for tackling the COVID-19 crisis, will be essential in the event of 2021. #EURegionsWeek will also serve as a platform for promoting the ongoing debate on democracy and the involvement of citizens in the future of Europe.
